maintain与support，uphold，sustain，back都含“支持”、“支援”的意思，它们有何异同？
答：support 系常用词, 指“支撑尤指从下面支撑”、“经受支撑住；承受”, 如: ① Walls support the roof.墙壁支撑屋顶。② He’s a large family to support. 他要养一大家子人。
uphold 指“举起；升起 高高举起；升起”，“反驳针对反对意见来坚持或肯定”。如: The judge upheld the lower court’s decision. 法官维持下级法院的判决。
sustain 指“继续生存；维持”,“支持，鼓舞支撑…的精神、生命力或决心；鼓励”。如: ① The sea wall sustains the shock of the waves. 海堤能抵挡海浪的冲击。② The facts sustained his theory.事实证实了他的理论。maintain 指“保持存在的状态；坚持或保持”,“保卫或抵制批评或进攻”。如: ① The car has always been properly maintained. 这汽车一直保养得很好。② He failed again and again simply because he had maintained his defeatist attitude.因为他一直坚持失败主义的态度,所以失败了一次又一次。
