The miracle form suddenly disappeared, however. Later in 2004 and in 2005 Xiang struggled to recover the world beating form that led to him equalling the world record in his Olympic run. At the 2005 IAAF World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, Xiang only achieved silver in a very tight race. Frenchman Ladji Doucoure won after battling with Allen Johnson in the middle lanes and just crossing the line ahead of Xiang. Doucoure won with 13.07, beating Xiang’s 13.08 by the tightest of margins.
