第166讲：out of the woods; out of the picture
今天我们要给大家讲解的两个习惯用语都是由out这个字组成的。Out这个字的用处是很多的，在每天讲话当中不知要用多少次，当然意思也有不同的地方，特别是用在习惯用语当中的时候。我们今天首先要给大家讲的是：out of the woods。Woods就是森林。要是一个人在森林里迷了路，东走西走、不知道会发生什么危险的事，又担心能不能找到回家的路，一旦找到了正确的方向，走出森林的时候，那种舒畅、安全的感觉是可想而知的。这就是out of the woods这个俗语的意思。下面我们要给大家举的例子就是一个珠宝店的老板在讲他的生意情况：
"Our business has been terrible all year and I was afraid we might have to give up and close the shop. But the last two months we've made a profit and I think we're out of the woods at last."
这个珠宝店老板说：“整整一年来，我们的生意简直糟透了，我当时担心我们恐怕得放弃这个生意，只好关门了。但是，过去两个月我们赚了一些钱，所以，我想我们终于算是脱离险境了。”
美国社会的一个特点就是变化的速度很快。有时你明明记得在一条街上有一家你很喜欢的商店，但是，过几年再到那里去，你可能会发现原来那家商店的地点已经开了别的店了。这个例句里的老板还算运气，没有倒闭。
现在再请大家听一遍用慢速念的这个句子：

"Michael drank too much at a party last night and smashed his car up on the way home. He ended up in the hospital and was in a coma all night. But he's awake today and feeling much better. Thank God he seems to be out of the woods now!"
这位太太说：“麦克昨晚去参加一个聚会，酒喝太多了，在回家的路上撞了车。结果他被送到一个医院，整夜昏迷不醒。不过，今天他已经清醒，感觉也好多了。他似乎渡过了危险期，真是谢天谢地。”
