  英语比赛演讲稿 篇1

Have you ever bought any food on the train? And do you ask for the receipt after buying it? Nowadays, all trains in China provide its passengers with receipts for commodities, but 7 years ago, things were quite different.

On 13th of October, 20xx, the train T109 from Beijing to Shanghai was speeding on the railway. A graduate student bought a sausage at 1 yuan on the train, then asked for a receipt.

“Are you kidding? It?s just one yuan!” The crew member was surprised.

The student, however, answered in a determined voice, “I paid the money, so I deserve the receipt.”

“But we never give receipts on the train.? As a result, his further request was turned down by a cold shoulder.

Several days later, the student sued the National Railway Ministry, for not providing receipts for passengers.

To his dismay, the court turned down the case for lack of evidence. But he, who majored in law at that time, believed law as a most powerful weapon, so he did not give up. Instead, he began his journey of collecting first-hand evidence by taking trains and buying commodities aboard. When his classmates were playing soccer, he was taking the train; When his classmates were buying food at Mcdonald?s, he was buying food on the train; When his classmates were asking girls out, he was asking for the receipts. As he joked, ?I was either taking the train or on the way to take the train.?

One month later, he appeared in the court again, with newly-collected evidence and a stronger confidence. And I guess, ladies and gentlemen, you will all cheer for the result because this time, the student won the case. Very soon, a regulation about receipts on the train came out. And whatever we buy on the train now, there?s a receipt for us.

Outside the court, the student was asked, “How do you make it to the end?” He said, “As a law student, I root my faith in law. I believe that law is there, to protect every person with no exception, and to ensure every person has a say.”

His words spread a strong faith in law, which is not only a doctrine of a law student, but also a belief that all citizens ought to hold. It is this faith that initiates the student to resort to law for a tiny issue; it is this faith that supports him to endure all the exhausting trips when collecting evidence; It is this faith that makes a seemingly “ridiculous” receipt request legal and rightful. It is this faith that helps to change our life, enhance our judicial system and bring social justice.

To many, a receipt of 1 yuan is too small to mention, however rights are to be respected and law is to be believed in. It all starts with a tiny receipt of 1 yuan, but we get a monumental case, a new regulation and a bumper harvest in social justice. The bridge that leads a tiny start to a bumper harvest is faith, the faith in law, rightful and strong.

a small truth to make life 100%

karamay experimental middle school luo jintao

good afternoon, my dear friends and the honorable judges.

i’m very glad to be here and give you my speech. i hope we all can enjoy the time. now, today my topic is: “a small truth to make life 100%”.

as a young english teacher, i have to face different kinds of students and deal with trivial things every day. life goes on, but sometimes it’s becoming frustrating and i feel very tired. how to make my life become better? i’m always seeking for the answer. fortunately, when i read a magazine one day, i found the truth to make my life 100%. today i would like to share it with you.

now, my dear friends, let’s do an interesting test together and then you will find the secret by yourself! as we all know, there are 26 alphabets in english, a to z. against them we have the numbers 1% to 26%. if a is equal to 1%, and b to 2%, and so on, until z is equal to 26%, then can you guess what can make our life 100%? that is to say, what can make our life perfect?

some of you may suggest “money”. however, after calculating, you’ll find it only comes to 72%. now try a few more. knowledge? yes, knowledge is power! but this time it only comes to 96%. how about love? that only shows at 54%. luck does even worse, only at 47%. though most of us think this is the most important.

then what makes 100%? hard work? closer, 98%. but not exact. now, what on earth can make life 100%? well, every problem has a solution, only if we perhaps change our attitude. yes! only attitude comes out at 100%.

many of the gifts we have been given have been distributed unfairly. we all wish we had the ability of the talented, the money of the rich, and the luck of the beautiful. but none of these matter. there is only one thing we all have equally and can always control even in the worst situations. and that is our attitude.

life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. therefore, attitude is the thing that shapes who you are the most.

attitude is everything. now, my dear friends, please give the world a sunshine smile. change your attitude and enjoy every minute in your life.

  that’s all. thank you!

  英语比赛演讲稿 篇3

Good evening, honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen! I’m very glad for being here on this beautiful Friday evening to share my thoughts with all of you on the topic of“make a change”. First of all,I really want to ask two questions: What is change, how to make a change.

Change is what keeps us fresh, change is what keeps us young, change is what keeps us from getting stale and stuck in a rut. I’d like to share a famous saying of Gandhi with all of you, what is, if you want to change the world, then you must change yourself first. Actually, we cannot change the past, but we can change the present, we cannot change the fact, but we can change our manner, we cannot change the weather, but we can change our mood, we cannot change life’s length, but we can change life’s width. Never complain that life is boring and the world is disappointing. If you don’t like the taste of your life, just change the ingredients.

Time files! Only once can we live. If you don’t want to leave any regret. Let’s start right now to make a change. We must realize that it is never too late to begin making changes that can change our life. The moral to it is to change what you see and don’t like. Don’t just sit there and think of how sad the place is. Make a change for the better. Don’t wait for the right time. There isn’t one. There is never a perfect time.Just time. Today always beats tomorrow. Today is the only day we have. Tomorrow is only a promise and may never come. Dream for tomorrow but live for today. Make your changes and do it now. Life makes no guarantees as to what you’ll have. It just give you time to make changes, and to take chances, and to discover what secrets might come your way. It is an honor to stand here and have this chance to say that we are the ones who can make a change and let a brighter day come.

  That’s all.Thanks for your time!

I’m very glad to make a speech here! This time, I’d like to talk something about English.

I love English. English language is now used everywhere in the world. It has become the most common language on the Internet and for international trade. Learning English makes me confident and brings me great pleasure.

At grade 3, I started to play games and sing English songs with other children. Then I discovered the beauty of the language, and began my colorful journey in the English world.

I hope I can travel around the world someday. I want to go to America to visit the Washington Monument. Of course, I want to go to London too, because England is the motherland of the English language. If I can ride my bike in the Cambridge University, I will be very happy. I hope I can speak English with everyone in the world. I’ll introduce China and Chinese culture to them, such as the Great Wall, the Tian’anmen Square and dumplings.

I know that Rome was not built in a day. I believe that after persistent hard work, one day I can speak English very well.

If you want to be loved, you should learn to love and be lovable. So I believe as I love English everyday, it will love me too.

My future is not a dream. I am confident that it will come true.

  英语比赛演讲稿 篇5

I still remember when I was in the senior high, one of my best friends was struggling to make a decision between going abroad for further study and staying in China, finally she chose the later, and the reason she provided was very simple:” studying abroad is a tough experience!” Most of us will probably agree with her because we’re always deliberately trying to avoid difficulties and toughness society assigns us. Therefore, lots of the criticisms nowadays are based on the fact that young people are lack of faith which is shaped by the toughness they should have encountered in their age. As a generation brought up in the greenhouse; our parents sheltered nearly every waves and storms outside our ivory tower. A little tree with constant watering and care can never stand a violent wind, however, a tree on a dry land can live more vigorously even after a disaster because bad conditions develop its quality to grow its root much more deeper into the ground. Toughness shapes faith, and faith can turn obstacles to opportunities.

Dear ladies and gentlemen, how many of you have ever given up your pursuit because you thought it was too tough to accomplish and the obstacles are insurmountable? When reflecting on ourselves, let’s make a comparison with a boy called Liu Wei, who won the championship of 20xx China’s Got Talent by playing piano with his feet. The 22-year old boy, whose arms were amputated because of an electric shock, finally overcame all the obstacles once hindered his way to pursue his dream and showed us a preternatural faith shaped by the toughness he has encountered. And finally, his misery turned out to be an opportunity for him to build his faith and won the recognitions from the public.

Liu’s stirring deeds make us contemplate, if he didn’t lose his arms when he was young, he might be one of those bewildered people, hunting for a job to keep him a living in the social trend, furthermore, if Helen Keller wasn’t deprived of her sight and hearing, she might be deprived of her insight into the essence of life, if President Lincoln’s career was all smooth before he won the election, he might never have that perseverance to bring him onto such a historical stage.

Toughness shapes faith, and faith can turn obstacles into opportunities. That’s the reason why we should always be positive towards those so-called torturing events in life. We saw the faith shaped by Liu’s disability supported him to win applauds by millions of people around the world, providing the opportunities for him to shake off the shackles of his lost arms. Several weeks ago, we saw the faith shaped by the national disaster supported a squad-group of 50 Japanese workers voluntarily stick fast to their post, providing the living opportunities for others. Then, what do we see in us? Building faith is a life-long process, let’s bravely face the storms of life, face the toughness we once wanted to shun, face our original dreams which were later denied by ourselves. Let’s shape our faith by facing the challenges in life, and altering the obstacles into those precious opportunities that we’ll treasure in our whole life!

  英语比赛演讲稿 篇6

Honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:

It is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful Saturday morning to share with you my sentiments about life and passion for the English language.

About a year and a half ago, I took part in my very first English Speech Contest. When I stood before the microphone with all eyes starring directly at me, I could hardly speak. I stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say. My fears had paralyzed me.

While my passion for English has never changed, I lost my courage to speak in public. When my professor again encouraged me to take part in this Competition, I said “no.” I couldn’t endure yet another painful experience. He looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart. I will never forget his words. “Look,” he said, “We all have our fears, and you have yours. You could twist your ankle in a basketball game, but then be afraid to ever play again. Running away can never dispel your fears, but action will. A winner is not one who never fails, but one who never quits.”

I spent a whole day with his words twisting and turning in my mind. Then I made the bravest and wisest decision of my life: I would face my fears – and take part in the competition!

As it turned out, my dear old professor was right. Now, here I am, once again standing before a microphone. My heart is beating fast, and my mouth is dry, but most importantly, I have faced my fears -- and that makes all the difference!

  Thank you.

  英语比赛演讲稿 篇10

To me March 28th was a lucky day. It was on that particular evening that I found myself at central stage, in the spotlight. Winning the ”21st Century·Ericsson Cup” Seventh National English Speaking Competition is a memory that I shall treasure and one that will surely stay.

More important than winning the Cup is the friendship that has been established and developed among the contestants, and the chance to communicate offstage in addition to competing onstage. Also the competition helps boost public speaking in China, a skill hitherto undervalued.

For me, though, the competition is a more personal experience. Habitually shy, I had been reluctant to take part in any such activities. Encouraged by my friends, however, I made a last-minute decision to give it a try. In the course of preparation I somehow rediscovered myself, a truer me.

I found that, after all, I like communicating with other people; that exchanging views can be so much fun—and so much rewarding, both emotionally and intellectually; that public speaking is most effective when you are least guarded; and that it is essential to success in every walk of life.

At a more practical level, I realized knowing what you are going to say and how you are going to say it are equally important. To take the original ideas out of your head and transplant them, so to speak, to that of others, you need to have an organized mind. This ability improves with training.

Yet there should not be any loss or addition or distortion in the process. Those ideas that finally find their way into another head need to be recognizably yours. Language is a means to transmit information, not a means to obstruct communication. It should be lucid to be penetrating.

In China, certain public speaking skills have been unduly emphasized. Will it really help, we are compelled to ask, to bang at the podium or yell at the top of your lungs, if you have come with a poorly organized speech, a muddled mind, and unwillingness to truly share your views?

Above all, the single most important thing I learnt was that as a public speaker, you need to pay attention, first and foremost, to the content of your speech. And second, the structure of your speech: how one idea relates and progresses to another.

Only after these come delivery and non-verbal communication: speed control, platform manner, and so on. Pronunciation is important, yet of greater importance is this: Is your language competent enough to express your ideas exactly the way you intend them to be understood?

I was informed afterwards that I was chosen to be the winner for my ”appropriately worded speech, excellent presence and quick-witted response”. In so remarking, the judges clearly showed their preference: they come to listen for meaningful ideas, not for loose judgments, nor easy laughters.

Some contestants failed to address their questions head on. Some were able to, but did not know where to stop—the dragging on betrayed their lack of confidence. The root cause was that they did not listen attentively to the questions. Or they were thinking of what they had prepared.

As I said in my speech, ”It is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking ... to take them [issues like globalization] on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way”. We need to respond honestly.

A competition like this draws talented students from all over the country. And of course, I learnt more things than just about public speaking. Since in the final analysis, public speaking is all about effective communication. And this goes true for all communications, whatever their setting.

And the following is the final version of my speech:

GLOBALIZATION: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR CHINAS YOUNGER GENERATION

Thirty years ago, American President Richard Nixon made an epoch-making visit to China, a country still isolated at that time. Premier Zhou Enlai said to him, ”Your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world—twenty-five years of no communication”. Thirty years since, China and America have exchanged many handshakes. The fundamental implication of this example is that the need to communicate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other nations as well.

As we can see today, environmentalists from different countries are making joint efforts to address the issue of global warming, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but nonetheless cripple the world economy, and politicians and diplomats are getting together to discuss the issue of combating terrorism. Peace and prosperity has become a common goal that we are striving for all over the world. Underlying this mighty trend of global communication is the echo of E. M. Forsters words ”Only connect!”

With the IT revolution, traditional boundaries of human society fall away. Our culture, politics, society and commerce are being sloshed into one large melting pot of humanity. In this interlinked world, there are no outsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to impact other parts of the globe. We have begun to realize that a world divided cannot endure.

China is now actively integrating into the world. Our recent entry to the WTO is a good example. For decades, we have taken pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importance of participating in and contributing to a broader economic order. From a precarious role in the world arena to our present WTO membership, we have come a long way.

But what does the way ahead look like? In some parts of the world people are demonstrating against globalization. Are they justified, then, in criticizing the globalizing world? Instead of narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables the developed nations to swallow the developing nations wealth in debts and interest. Globalization, they argue, should be about a common interest in every other nations economic health.

We are reminded by Karl Marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. This has become a reality. Multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favourable policy. They are often powerful lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market and a devastating presence to local businesses.

For China, still more challenges exist. How are we going to ensure a smooth transition from the planned economy to a market-based one? How to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? How to maintain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? And how to define greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? Globalization entails questions that concern us all.

Like many young people my age in China, I want to see my country get prosperous and enjoy respect in the international community. But it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough. It is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues. There might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. This is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech.

Paul Bunyan was a hero in American folk tales. He was a lumberjack, livingin lumber camps ofthe American Northwest. He became famous for his greatstrength and great skill in cuttingtrees. According to legend, Paul Bunyan was agiant. He was so big that a small step he tookwas about three city blocks. Hecreated much of America. He dug Puget Sound in Washingtonto float huge logs tothe mill. He cleared trees from North and South Dakota and made the landin thosestates suitable for farming.

He dragged his huge ax in the field of Colorado, and thuscreated the Grand Canyon. He also scooped out the Great Lakes to providedrinking water forhis giant blue ox, Babe. Babe weighed fifteen tons beforebreakfast and stood sixty feet tall. From the tip of one horn to the tip of theother, it measured 42 ax handles and a plug ofchewing tobacco. The ox atetremendous amounts of hay and potato peels and could haul awhole forest of logs. When Babe needed new shoes, the blacksmith had to open a new ironmine inMinnesota. The shoes were so heavy that the blacksmith sank knee-deep into solidrockwhile carrying them. Babe hadn’t always been blue. But nobody knew for surehow it had cometo be that colour. Some said it had turned blue from playingoutdoors too long during theWinter of the Blue Snow.

The first time I saw a square watermelon, my hair stood on end. Years ago a Japanese came up with the idea of square watermelons because he thought it would save more space. Intelligent and effective as it is, have you ever thought about how tragic it is for the watermelon?

I cant imagine that poor fruits childhood, being imprisoned and limited in a dark cubic cell, not even able to stretch its arms and legs. Because only in this way, can it truly become a square watermelon.

Unfortunately, isnt this the way we grew up? Under the pressure of being forced to strive for one goal after another, we almost became identical. However, at the same time, there is still a bunch of people, careless of the dark cell, following their passion, their dreams.

Maybe there is not a "right" or "wrong" between being forced by pressure or following your dream. I mean, pressure can make things going in an effective, though boring, way. By contrast, passion and dreams enrich your life, though sometimes its risky to stick to them. Nevertheless, Ladies and gentlemen, following your dream with passion is what everyone should choose to do.

Let me explain it this way.

My grandmother was very shocked when she found out that I know what my cousin sister is doing simply by clicking on her blog. Hesitating for a little while, though, She asked for my help and decided to start her "social network life" at the advanced age of 85.

Think about this, A woman didnt give up her passion, and tried not to fall behind, even almost in the evening of her life. What supported her is her passion and her dream. The sad truth is that not everyone is able to enjoy this part of life. When they become old, or, as some would say, when they become mature, their mind is imprisoned into a box, partly by society, partly by themselves. They have tons of things they must do also tons of things they must not do. In essence, thousands of millions of people are becoming like square melons with an imprisoned mind.

This reminds me of a book I once read called "Brave New World". In the story, the world in 2532 is highly efficient, stable and prosperous. People are classified before they are born, when they are from the same family they will have the same face, the same abilities and same future. That’s a world in which there’s no passion or dream. Only pressure and and striving.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the world we could end up in, if we allow ourselves to be blocked in, like the square melons.

I am losing friends left and right, well, actually, only left. some friendships, however, have been strengthened during this election.

When i was 6, i learned a song: make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the others gold. even as a child, i was a born raconteur, so i always had lots of friends. but, by the time i got to fourth grade, i was already getting into political brawls. early on, i began living my politically active mothers joke, my name, it opens some doors and closes others.

I learned to tone it down a bit by the time i got to college. as a theater major, it was fun in an acting class one day, when we each had to pretend to be another student. i chose to mimic a beautiful petite girl with long dark hair. she was my polar opposite, this former cheerleader-turned-hippie-princess named michelle. she got a kick out of my impression of her. i thought it was cool that she could laugh at herself. we began a friendship that has brought us to the present day.

Yet we were always opposites. i am roman catholic, she is jewish. i am tall, she is short. one rainy afternoon on campus, michelle insisted on carrying the umbrella for both of us, i dont think i stood up straight until the net day!

Bback then, she was as passionate a democrat as i was a republican. however, my friend and i still had something in common that was more important than all the differences. we shared the same values and they showed up in a dozen little ways. that is why we are friends almost 30 years later. furthermore, she had been moving in my direction politically before, but sept. 11,  brought us to a new level of communication. we have bonded even more during this election.

Sadly, i also have re-evaluated some other friendships as tensions increased due to the kerry-edwards demagoguery. this is the first time in memory that ive even been appalled by both spouses of the democratic ticket. i rather liked tipper gore and hadassa lieberman. i thought they were sweet. and thats the way i used to feel about my liberal pals. but, now a teresa heinz-kerry-like irrationality/elizabeth edwards snotty innuendo has infected some of them -- and it makes them unpleasant to be around.

This election may leave those friendships in its wake. the outlook is definitely not good for their christmas card inclusion.

Sept. 11, iraq, the demonization of israel by kerrys european fans, the beheadings--all of the latter just doesnt seem to change the 90s mentality of those i know who are voting for the democratic party ticket. like kerry, they still seem to consider the united states life-and-death struggle a nuisance. these liberal friends of mine are certainly not bad people, but deep down, they still dont get that we are at war with a greater evil than any of us has ever known. combined with the etremism culturally on the left, these people are becoming more than a nuisance themselves.

The sobering fact is that these friendships are just too taing (in both senses of that word). those relationships have become like old prom dresses in that they just dont fit anymore. there comes a point where some associations can become a fire hazard in ones closet. it may be time to do spring cleaning, even if the season is autumn.

Sure, friends cant agree on everything, nor are they supposed to but though i may think someones a nice person, fun, etc.increasingly deep differences in our world view cant be ignored in these frightening times.

Three decades later, michelle is no longer the shorter-than-me actress who insisted on carrying the umbrella as we walked to class, though she is still shorter than me. but she and i easily walk together under an umbrella of shared concerns. a few weeks ago we sat side by side at a most moving event celebrating jewish and christian support of israel and each other.

Yet, we still live very different lives. my college friend has been married for 25 years to the love of her life, the mother of three and an eecutive in an entertainment corporation. and meanwhile her single free-lancing writer/actress friend, even after all these years still does impressions of her only in print now.

Happily, others have also come along to become comrades in arms this election. they represent a diversity in lifestyle that would warm any liberals heart ,although said liberal wouldnt warm our hearts. theres genie the stockbroker, cathy the casting director, robin the mom of one of my former acting students, sally the daughter of one of my mothers old friends and many others. their e-mail messages and calls let me know that though other friendships may wither during this election, im hardly alone. they all have a point of view that enables us to skip to shorthand. all of these women make up my own personal non-elitist version of the view, the conservative cut.

Yes, now those old childrens lyrics resonate with a new meaning in make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other is gold. regretfully, without shared values even after this tumultuous election of , some friendships may have turned to a tin that rings hollow in these perilous times.

By the way, i recently chatted with one of those former brownies who sang with me so long ago, she is a security mom. she is voting for george w. bush and she will definitely be included on my christmas card list.

Our Future: A Battle between Dreams and Reality

  Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen:

When I was in the primary school, I have a dream. I want to invent a device which could bring you from one place to another in no time at all. When I was in the secondary school, my dream was to study in my ideal university. And when eventually I got into the university, my dream was to graduate.

How pathetic! When we grow up, we dream less and become more realistic. Why? Why do we have to change our dreams, so, so in order to let it be "fulfilled"? Why do we have to surrender to the so-called "reality"? What IS the reality actually?

Ladies and gentlemen, the reality is not real. It is a barrier keeping us from all the possible fantasies. Flying, for example, had been a dream to mankind for thousands of years. A hundred years ago, "man could not fly" was still regarded as the "reality". Now if that was really the reality, what did the Wright brothers do? How did some of you get to Macau? Only when we believe that the reality is not real can we soar with our dreams.

People say that our future is a battle between the reality and our dreams. And if, unfortunately, Mr. Reality wins this war, then I see no future of mankind at all. AIDS will never be curable as this IS the reality; People living in the undeveloped countries will suffer from starvation forever as this IS the reality; 4) Disputes among different countries would never be settled as this misunderstandings and intolerance IS the reality.

Ladies and gentlemen, how many of you have a dream of being able to make a lot of money? Please raise your hands. Oh, quite a number of you! Actually, ladies and gentlemen, this is not a dream, but a task. Every one of us has to make a living, right? Anyway I hope your task

will be accomplished. How many of you think that you have already fulfilled your dream and that you don't dream anymore? Dear 5) adjudicators, what do you think? C.S. Lewis once said, "You are never too old to dream a new dream." So for our future, please dream and be unrealistic.

Now that I am a university student, my goal is to graduate with excellences. But at the same time, I have a dream deeply rooted in our future. One day, people living in the areas now 6) sweltering with the horror of wars will be able to sit with their families and enjoy their every moment. One day, people from the rich countries are willing to share what they have with those from the poor countries and those from the poor countries will eventually be able to make their own happy living themselves. One day, different cultures in this age of globalization will coexist with tolerance and the unfriendly confrontations among them will be 7) eliminated. One day, the globe will share the dream with me and we will all contribute to making our dream come true. One day, our dream will defeat the reality! Thank you very much.

Good afternoon, honorable judges, dear teachers friends.

I'm Lai Senhan from the University of International Business Economics. Do you know what date is it today? Today is the Olympic Date. I'm so glad to stand here today to share my idea about Beijing Olympic Games together with you all. The title of my speech is: what can we do for Beijing Olympic Games?

First of all, let me tell you a story that happened 2 years ago. At the end of August, 20xx, when I decided to come to Beijing for study, my friends helrewell Party for me. They said: after your graduation, you should look for a job in Beijing, and then in 20xx, we shall go to visit you during the Olympic Games. I laughed and answered: OK, no problem!

Time flied and 2 years passed. Now I am a graduate. My teachers and classmates always ask me: what's your plan after your graduation? Go back home, stay in Beijing, or go to some other places? And I always answer: I will stay in Beijing. I make this decision not because of my promise to my friends 2 years ago, but because: I've fallen in love with Beijing! I'm eager to welcome the coming Olympic Games together with my fellow countrymen, and I wish I could do something for the Olympics for the city.

As we know, Beijing will host the 29th Summer Olympic Games in 20xx. As a Chinese, I think many people are thinking: what we can do for Beijing Olympic Games. Most of us are not athletes, we cannot take part in competitions directly; we are not officials either, we don't need to do the preparatory work. We are only ordinary people, what we can do!

There are still so many things we can do! For example, for me, I am a graduate majoring Business English. As far as I am concerned, I will keep on learning English hard, and apply for being a volunteer. I will use English to serve the Games together with other volunteers. And also, as a businessman at that time, I will avail myself of the great commercial opportunities that the Olympics brings to us, make more efforts to offer my contribution to the growth of our national economy.

And for all of us, with the goal to host a "Green Olympics", we shall plant more trees, grass flowers. Don't waste water. In order to alleviate the problems of air pollution traffic congestions, we shall take buses subways more. With the goal to host a "People's Olympics", and in order to make our Olympics more attractive and to make our Beijing more beautiful, we shall help everyone we meet who needs help, we shall abide by traffic rules, don't smoke in public and no spitting. The most important way for our Chinese to support our Beijing Olympic Games, in my opinion, is to work hard on our duties.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, let’s play a game. I am going to raise a question for you. If you have the correct answer in your mind before I disclose it, then you win. Listen carefully. What is the strongest belief in the world?

I knew a man who used to tell me stories about his life. He was a poor man who was born during a war, grew up in war time and unfortunately was dragged to another war just after he got married. He originally thought he would die during that war. But as he always told me it was the strongest belief in the world that saved him from early death.

In 1952, the man was 25 years old. Though he had suffered the horrors of wars, he finally made it through those hard times. He had a wonderful family, a beautiful wife and a lovely baby. Suddenly, the Korean War broke out. As a soldier, he and his wife were surely aware what the war could mean to them. When the man set off to the front line, his wife told him this, “I give you the strongest belief in the world and with this I know you will be back”. During a battle, the man was shot in the chest. His mate thought he would be another one added to the death list. The man told me that at the crucial moment he saw the sweet smile of his beloved wife and heard his baby crying “Papa, Papa”. Tenaciously clinging to the belief shared with his wife, he miraculously survived.

This poor but lucky guy was my grandfather. He did come back after the war and would always tell about the strongest belief that kept him alive in those dark times. I was never good at making small talk with him so when he passed away 5 years ago I never had the chance to ask him seriously what that strongest belief was. This time, he wasn’t coming back. So after that, I began searching for what my grandfather’s legacy really meant. What is the strongest belief in the world, ladies and gentlemen?

Last year, I was an interpreter for a Korean businessman for several weeks. I noticed every night he would take a picture of his wife and daughter from his wallet. Carefully, he polished the picture as if he were touching their real faces gently. I asked how long he had been away from home. He sighed it was already a few months. But he emphasized that before he left home, his wife told him about the strongest belief in the world, which meant he would certainly be back. It was this phrase again—the strongest belief in the world. But this time, I realized what it really meant.

The strongest belief is like a round-trip ticket, it may take you away at times, but it will always bring you back to where you started from. It was this ticket that brought my grandfather back to his wife. It was this ticket that sent the Korean businessman back to his family. And, it is on this ticket, where it reads: your destination—home. So, ladies and gentlemen, the strongest belief in the world is simply—home.

Because of this belief, soldiers are willing to pick up guns. Because of this belief, sailors go on the longest voyage. Because of this belief, we have the courage to face any difficulty. Because we are sure tomorrow, whether success or failure, this belief will guide us home.

What Kind of animal am I?

I was born in a small river. When I was young, the river was my home. I didn't know my parents. But I had hundreds of brothers and sisters. I swam sbout with them all day.

At that time I didn't look like my parents. I had no legs, but I had a ling tail. So I looked like a fish.

Then my tail became shorter, and now I have four legs and a very short tail.

I know I'm going to have no tail at all soon, I'm going to be like my parents, then I'm going to jump out of the water. I'm going to live on the land or in the water, too. I'm going to eat a lot of insects. So I'm good for people.

  PREPARED SPEECH

Ladies and Gentlemen: I am really glad I could be with you today. Now the topic of my speech is Improving our PE system, Promoting the Olympic games spirit.

It is well know that the olympic games happened in Beijing successfully. China gained the winner and got the most champion gold medal. We all are proud of it.

Now the Nanjing youth olympic games is just around the corner. There is a crazy for Gold medal among the sports player. Even some students go back to the field for a good results. It seems that everyone is striving for them.

Why are gold medal so attractive? It can be explained by the comments of our nation and society. Our nation often evaluates a sports player on the basis of whether not the gold medal he or she get. Usually, the more medals one have, the more respects and opportunities one will have. gold medal are often regarded as a passport to personal advancement.

Not long ago, I got a news in the newspaper. It shocked me a lot. It was reported that the world university gymnastics champion Zhangshangwu was dropped to the street after release from prison. It was called “MAIYI”

How pathetic! how would it happened? so, so somewhere must be wrong. What IS theproblen actually?

Ladies and Gentlemen:the problem is our physical education system. The current system always encourage them to try their utmost to win the game. It doesn’t enable them to gain the real olmpic games spirit, the player who came out first are not necessary mean a real sportsman. I mean the “ real sportsman”.

Besides ,this system often drive the coach to cram a lot of awareness all the time. such as ,country groly, becoming famous and of course money.they are force to train those players become the MACHINES of making medals.

Something must be done to change our current our PE system. There should be some reasonable and encourageable measures to drive the person who are crazy about sports keep moving, pursue the extreme of our humanbeings. In a word,we should return back to the real Olympic games spirit: HIGHER, SWIFTER,and STRONGER! And that is what we should do at once!

  Thank you very much!

Everyone has their idol. So do I. My idol is neither a big star, nor a person with brilliant achievements. My idol is an ordinary person close to me. He’s my father, my beloved father.

My father is 36 years old. He’s tall and keeps his shape well. He has a long face. On the long face, there is a pair of eyes with brimming vigor. Just because of this pair of eyes, he can tell the right from wrong. Between the two eyes, there is a straight nose. Under the nose, there is a mouth with slightly raised corners. With these well-shaped corners of mouth, he always looks like smiling even when he is angry. He is so kind.

My father is an engineer. He also has a business of his own. In my mind, there is always a picture that he’s very busy. I know what he is doing is for us, for the happiness of our family. Influenced by him, I may take up the work in the similar field and will try my best to achieve some successes when I grow up.

My father has some hobbies. For example, he likes playing basketball. He plays it very well. I hope that I can do it like him. But I am a little fat. I will do more exercises to lose some weight.

My father is just an ordinary person, but he shows a lot of passion for life from the bottom of his heart. He sticks to his ideas and never gives up what he is doing. He does not want to be looked down upon by others. My father doesn’t have a good looking like a movie star. But I respect him for his insistence and commitment. He’s my idol forever.

Honorable Judges, fellow students: Good afternoon! Recently, ther is a heated debate in our society. The college students are the beneficiaries of a rare privilege, who receive exceptional education at extraordinary places. But will we be able to face the challenge and support ourselves against all odds? Will we be able to better the lives of others? Will we be able to accept the responsibility of building the future of our country?

The cynics say the college students are the pampered lost generation, which would cringe at the slightest discomfort. But the cynics are wrong. The college students I see are eagerly learning about how to live independently. We help each other clean the dormitory, go shopping and bargain together, and take part time jobs to supplement our pocket money.

The cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. But again, the cynics are wrong. We care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth. Last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.

As college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. We all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. I believe in all my fellow classmates. Though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. I believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. We are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. I believe in our future.
