　Ladies and gentlemen,

　　Good morning. I am ZUO Tong from the High School affiliated to Renmin University.

　　Today, I am going to tell you a true story. About five years ago, I received my very first email from an American pen pal. The first question she asked me was whether all Chinese people knew Kungfu and the second one was whether we had TV at home! I had heard that many foreigners had no idea what China was like, but still, I was shocked.

　　It is true that China, our homeland, has gone through a very difficult period of time. However, we haven't collapse. We have been poor, been invaded, been encroached and been discriminated, but we have never been conquered. It was the history we will never forget, and it was just the history.

　　Yes, my motherland, the People's Republic of China, is now known as a great nation throughout the world. The thoughts of Confucius and Mencius', which have mainly made up Chinese ideology since thousands of years ago, now have a worldwide influence. The variety of culture and magnificent landscapes in China attract millions of foreign tourists every year. The GDP increasing by a rate of more than 8% made China play a crucial role in global economy. Moreover, as the host of the Olympic Games and the World Expo, China has drawn attention from all over the world. As in the Tang Dynasty, when China was famous as the most powerful eastern country, our homeland is bringing about a great rejuvenation!

　　These days, all of my foreign friends are excited about China. They are always saying how wonderful the Olympic Games were and how interesting the 5000-year-long Chinese history is. As I have seen more and more people getting to know about China, the pride in my heart has gradually increased.

　　Every time I speak about the achievements China has made, I find it hard to describe my feeling. SU Dongpo, the famous poet in the Song Dynasty said that the endless river eastward flows; with its huge waves are gone all those gallant heroes of bygone years. The Chinese people have made China admirable to the world, and it is our generation's turn to make her incredible to the world. There is little we cannot do, and there is little we cannot expect.

　　As for my pen pal, she has already become an expert on China and she always introduces Chinese culture to her friends now. Of course, she won't ask me if my father has a pigtail anymore.
