The shape-selective alkylation of polycyclic hydrocarbons is used to synthesize symmetric intermediates such as 4,4′-dialkylbiphenyl (4,4′-DABP) and 2,6-dialkylnaphthalene (2,6-DAN) which are important precursors of advanced polymer materials[1].
