创作背景
菲利普·劳伦斯认为一个艺术家失去爱情后，是不想看见那些亲热的场面的。于是他想创作一首歌来表达这种心境。他还表示歌曲的创作受到了比利·乔尔和艾尔顿·约翰的启发。歌曲的题材源于布鲁诺所经历过的爱情。
布鲁诺·马尔斯表示，这首歌是写给女朋友杰西卡·卡班的，他想表述出害怕失去她的感情。他认为把这首歌很难表达，其中一个原因是将那些旧情绪加入歌曲中，就像是在流血。
