　　世界上所有宗教和文化普遍遵守的一条准则就是尊敬老人。在我看来，老年人为我们的社会做出了贡献，提供给我们智慧和指导，得到尊敬理所应当，受之无愧。

　　我们从自己的父母亲和祖父母那儿继承了这个世界。如果不是过去几代人，包括我们当中的老年人的辛勤工作，我们今天所享有的现代社会是完全不可能存在的。老年人努力工作，供养家人、社会以及年轻的后代。他们中有些人曾为我们今天庆祝的自由而战;有些人曾为给后代创造更好的生活和工作环境而奋斗。作为享受他们劳动成果的后来人，我们理所当然应该尊重他们。

　　一生中见证了无数时间兴衰的前辈们，同样也是智慧和指引的无价的来源：实际上他们就是活的历史。同祖父母的一次对话能够听比阅读百科全书或教科书所获取的关于过去的更有意义的理解。老年人的.智慧和经验也使他们成为几代家庭的支柱。
