在我的记忆中，有过许多的比赛。例如：奥数比赛、语文比赛、作文比赛。可最让我难忘的还是那次英语演讲比赛。
记得四年级暑假的一天，我漫步在小区里。忽然，我发现小区的报告亭上有一则广告，上面说我们小区里就要举行一场英语演讲比赛，有外国人过来听。地址：小区物业大厅内。看完之后，我犹豫不决：我到底去不去，如果去我英文不好，如果不去机会难得。
这时，我想起了妈妈的一句话：“不是所有的种子都必须要长成参天大树，但如果不努力，就不能破土而出，更不会长成参天大树。”于是，我径直走向了物业的大门，报了名。我回到家以后和妈妈说明了情况，妈妈二话不说，帮我到图文店里打印了资料，我拿起了资料，如饥似渴地读了起来，因为比赛的时候是要脱稿的，所以我一有时间就拿出来练习。
比赛那天，我面带微笑的对着一些外国人。我异常紧张，但又想：养兵千日用兵一时。我之前的`努力不就是为了这一刻吗？我绝对不能在这个关节点上掉链子。于是，我发挥超常。但是我的对手都是大人，所以我的成绩一落千丈。
虽然这次我没有得到名次，但是它让我明白了一个道理：只有努力才是通向成功的捷径。
