4、正确区分可数名词与不可数名词
(1)英语名词可以分为可数名词和不可数名词。可数名词是表示可以计数的人、事物的名词。可数名词一般有单数和复数两种形式，有些词的单复数形式相同。不可数名词是表示不可以计数的事物的名词。不可数名词一般不分单数和复数，也不能直接与 a/an 连用。一般说来，个体名词是可数名词、抽象名词、物质名词和专有名词是不可数名词;集体名词根据情况，有时用作可数名词，有时用作不可数名词。有时有些物质名词和抽象名词也可转用作个体名词。
Tables are made of wood.桌子是有木头做的。
Father went to his doctor for advice about his heart trouble. 爸爸去 找他的医生询问他的心脏病的建议。
He gained his wealth by printing works of famous writers. 他靠印刷名 家著作发了财。
(2)可数名词和不可数名词各有其不同的修饰语。
只修饰可数名词单数的：如 a/an，one，another，either，neither，every，many a 等。
I don't like this book, give me another one.我不喜欢这本书, 请另外给我一本。
Neither shoe feels comfortable.两只鞋都感觉不舒服。
An apple a day keeps the doctor away.[谚] 一天一个苹果, 医生不上门(比 喻不生病)。
只修饰可数名词复数的：如 these，those，few，many，a good/great many，a good/great number of， both，several 及二以上的数词等。
It is impossible for so few workers to do so much work in a single day. 如此少的人在一天内做这么多工作是不可能的。
I'm afraid he did not do very well in the dictation. There were quite a few spelling mistakes in it.恐怕考试他听写没做好，里面有很多拼写错误。
Were there many people at the meeting?有很多人到会吗?
只修饰不可数名词的：如 a little，a bit of，much，a great/good deal of，a great/large/small amount of 等。
There was so much food that we couldn't eat it all. 食物太多了，我们 吃不完。There's a little bit of time left. 只剩一点儿时间了。
既可修饰可数名词又可修饰不可数名词的有：the，one's，some，any，no， all，a lot of，lots of，plenty of，a large/small quantity of，which， what，other，half，one-third 等
some 在解释为 “某一”，any 在解释为” 任何”时也可修饰可数名词单数。this 和that 只能修饰可数名词单数和不可数名词，last，next，the other 和序数词只能修饰可数名词单数和复数。
I need a lot of cloth, for I'm going to make many clothes.我需要大量 的布，因为我要做很多衣服。
I have some books.我有一些书。
He has waited some time.他等了一会儿了。
