  The Invention of the telephone

  In the nineteenth century, the invention of the telegraph made it possible to send noises, signals, and even music over wires from one place to another. However, the human voice __1__ this way.   Hitchhiking

  When I was in my teens and 20s, hitchhiking was a main form of long-distance transport. The kindness or curiosity of strangers ___B__1____ me all over Europe, North America, Asia and southern Africa. Some of the life-givers became friends, many provided hospitality ___D__2_____ the road.

  The White House

  ?We got up early this morning and __1__ a long walk after breakfast. We walked through the business section of the city.
