吊死鬼”平常是呆在树上的，未老熟前不能吐丝。但是到能吐丝了以后，它们并不立即钻入土中化蛹，还会在树上呆一段时间，这时它们一旦受惊就会采取自我保护的措施——吐丝把自己悬在空中，脱离树枝。
