英语作文 篇1

the Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway s most enduring works and may very well become one of the true classics of this generation. It played a GREat part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel Prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanijaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me.

I first read this book when I was in my fifteens. And now I remember it just as well as if I had read it yesterday.

Pride and Prejudice is a chefdoeuvre.

英语作文 篇3

In the twinkling of an eye, June left, with the summer sun gradually gone, dragging the beautiful gauze skirt. Slowly, slowly, like a wisp of smoke, slowly flew away. July is coming! July is a month I like, but also my mother's lucky number.

July is like a naughty child, who laughs and cries for a while. It's very angry and cries without moving. I always hear it crying at home every day. It seems that there are still some resentments in the crying. Some are awkward and really make people laugh and cry.

July is also a very sensible child, giving us a beautiful world. July is very beautiful now, every time I see the sun in the rain, and of course, the beautiful sunset. In the daytime, there will be a lot of white clouds, with a sense of hierarchy, sometimes forming a rooster, sometimes forming a Doberman.

Time flies fast. After July, it will be August. August 8 is my birthday. I'm looking forward to that day.

Directions: Write a letter of complaint according to the following situation: You and your friend went to buy souvenirs, but the assistant refused your request of removing the dust from some of the bronze statues and murmured that your friend is foolish. You ask the manager to look into this unsatisfactory state of affairs.

Write your letter in no less than 150 words. Do not sign your own name at the end of the letter; use Zhang Yu instead. You do not need to write the address.

  A Letter of Complaint

  November 23, 20xx

  Dear Manager,

Much to my regret, I write this to place a complaint against one of your shop-assistants concerning bad service in the course of our shopping yesterday.

Yesterday at about ten o’clock in the morning, my husband, a lady friend of ours and I, came to your shop with the intention of buying some souvenirs. One of your shop-assistants, whose badge number was 15 if I got it right, was asked to remove the dust from some of the bronze statues in order that our friend might have a good look at these objects before making up her mind to buy. Under such a suitation, it was the assistant’s duty either to do what she was asked to do or to explain why she was unable to comply with such a request.

Instead of attending to her duty and acting in a polite manner, the assistant turned a deaf ear to our request and walked away murmuring in a sarcastic manner that our friend was foolish in asking for the removal of the dust. Great was our embarrassment in such an awkward situation.

We ask you to look into this unsatisfactory state of affairs and to take steps to prevent a similar recurrnce of such offensive behavior in future. The lady in question is from New Zealand and it would be a pity if she should form an unfavorable impression of the service in this city.

  Yours Respectfully,

  Zhang Yu

In recent years, Sinology, the study of Chinese traditional culture, literature, history, society etc, has become increasingly popular. For instance, it is reported that many primary and secondary schools have set up courses of sinology, in which students are taught classical works by Chinese ancient educators and philosophers, like Confucius- Another good illustration is in the program CCTV Lecture Room famous scholars, e.g, Yu Dan, give lectures on Chinese ancient philosophies and literatures.

Sinology becomes prevalent due to the fact that it is of vital significance for both the individuals and the society. For one thing, Sinology is the essence of Chinese civilization with more than 5,000 years. Thus, for individuals, they can enlarge their scope of knowledge, enrich their experience and adapt themselves to the complicated society. For another, it is acknowledged that the rehabilitation of Sinology can contribute to the establishment of a harmonious society.

In my opinion, all Chinese people should inherit the merits of Sinology. To do so, we can read books by ourselves or to attend lectures on this issue. Besides, we have the obugation to popularize introducing it to the world. By doing so, we can not only inherit it but also make it glorious and prosperous.

With mobile phones widely used in our daily lives, various Apps emerge. Reading has therefore become more convenient. However, different people hold different views toward online reading.

Though more convenient reading becomes, I like paper reading more than online reading. The reasons are as follows. Firstly, I cherish the moment keeping company with the book. When I bury my head into the book, the special fragrance of the book slips through my fingers, into my nose, then into my brain. How marvelous the feeling is! Secondly, I can take various notes on the book as long as I want to, which is not that easy to do when reading online. When I have finished reading the book, what I harvest will be not only the knowledge and idea the book conveys, but also my systematic thinking about the book, which can be vividly embodied by my notes on the book. Thirdly, paper reading won’t be distracted easily by irrelevant information which often emerges in online reading.

Based on the above three points, I prefer paper reading to online reading.

China has decided to end its decades-long one-child policy. All couples are allowed to have two children. This decision has aroused much chatter—whether it is high time that China should carry out the universal two-child policy or not. As far as I am concerned, this policy is in line with China’s domestic situations.

Speaking from a macro perspective, this policy is a timely adjustment to China’s changing situations. The aging population has been posing a threat to the sustainable and healthy development of China. This policy will optimize the demographic structure, increase the labor force, ease the pressure of aging population and ensure the sustainable and healthy development of the economy and society.

Speaking from a micro one, as the odds of having a weak elderly parent and all the attendant need for physical and financial assistance have jumped many times in just one generation, this policy will bring about many benefits to the family in the long run. In spite of the fact that child rearing is anything less than an easy task, the disadvantages, such as temporarily economic burden, seem to be pale compared with the benefits. The second child, at least, will accompany his or her sibling and in the future, they will share the responsibility to support and care for their old parents.

  范文:Decline in Morals

In modern society, the decline in morals isbecoming more and more severe. For example, there have been a few cases in which a senior woman pretended to have fallen over and thenblackmailed the person who tried to help her. There was also another case where a little girl washit by a car and no passers-by gave her a hand.

To solve this problem, we need first to find out the reasons. For one, the fast pace ofmodern society is driving people apart from each other, thus people are losing the patience tocare for others. For another, with technology developing, it’s much easier for people to knowwhat is happening in the world today. In order to draw people’s attention, some media wouldlay stress on negative news and overemphasize the negative effects.

To reestablish social morals, we must work together. People should learn to care for theothers, while the media should treat negative news more properly.

  范文:Creating a Green Campus

Recently, with the idea of making and maintaining "a green earth" being the focus of the society, "green campus" has become a more and more popular concept in universities or colleges, which, undoubtedly, will bring us an ever-lasting benefit to both our campus and our society.

The concept of " green campus" does not only mean a green environment but also refers to an environmental sense in people's mind. Campus plays a crucial role in educating the young generation and the consciousness of " green campus" will definitely produce a profound effect on students' various environmental protection activities after their graduation. What's more, the young generation is under the burden of severe environmental pollution and there are many problems waiting for them to solve.

To make "green campus" come true, firstly, it is necessary to work out effective principles for the development of sustainable and recyclable campus. Secondly, it calls for people's awareness of the serious pollution around us and actual action to reduce the waste. Last but not least, it is necessary to strengthen the ties between campus and society, so as to ensure that "green campus" can work smoothly with the co-effort of the whole society.

【范文如下】University Students’ Pursuit of Famous Brands

“What perfumes are you wearing?” “Aren’t your shoes Nike’s latest release?” “I like the Mickey bag you bought yesterday.” “I hear the Jack & Jones store is on sale this week. Do you wanna come along?” Don’t feel surprised if you hear them coming out of the mouth of college students. It’s quite common to hear and see college students swapping information about the brands they like and the products they use. In fact, discussions about brand names have become one of the college students’ favourite pastimes. They learn about the latest fashion from each other, exchange tips about when and where to get the item, and buy it at their earliest convenience. “Keeping up with the Joneses” is their conviction —“If the Joneses have it, how could I have not?” About this current mindset of the college students, many people may hasten to show their disapproval. They’ll probably take it to be a reflection of the students’ vanity and superficiality. And they may lecture them on the virtue of being thrifty.

However, I beg to differ. For one thing, name-brand products are usually quality products. They are something beautiful, endurable, and reliable. “The love of beauty is common to all,” goes the proverb; therefore, there’s nothing to blame about the pursuit of famous brands. For the other, college students are old enough to make their own decisions. Likewise, they must abide by the consequences if they make an ill-advised one. If they let their pursuit of brands eat into their budget for other more important issues, they should be able to correct their mistakes and keep everything in moderation. So this becomes no other than a good chance to learn management, isn’t it?
